Worldcon

Purposes:

The purposes of the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS), according to its rules, are as follows: to choose the recipients of the annual Hugo Awards (Science Fiction Achievement Awards), to choose the locations and Committees for the annual World Science Fiction Conventions (the Worldcons), to attend those Worldcons, and to choose the locations and Committees for the occasional North American Science Fiction Conventions (the NASFiCs). (A NASFiC is held in North America in any year where the Worldcon is outside of North America.)

Membership:

There is no such thing as direct membership in the World Science Fiction Society. You can only be a member of one or more particular World Science Fiction Conventions. The membership of WSFS is defined as the membership of the upcoming Worldcon. Right now that is The Millennium Philcon. After the closing ceremonies of Chicon 2000, the membership of WSFS will change to be the membership of the next Worldcon, ConJose. WorldCons offer "supporting" memberships, which get you all their publications and include the right to vote on the Hugo Awards and Site Selection, at a substantial discount from full "attending" membership which includes the right to attend the convention. See each future Worldcon listed above for details.
